Nancy (France), 6th November 2016: the ESN sections of Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Malta has unanimously elected Milan to be the host city of the 2017 South-Western European Platform (SWEP), rewarding ESN Unicatt Milano and ESN Politecnico Milano, the two organizing sections, for the hard and meticulous work of the last months. But let's rewind it a little bit to understand what this means.
It all started a few months earlier with a crazy idea, bring back an international event of the ESN network to Milan after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2014. The chosen event was the SWEP of 2017. The two previously mentioned sections joined forces to form an Organizing Committee that could plan and carry on the ambitious project. After months of hard work in Milan, the main stage moved to Nancy, where SWEP 2016 was taking place and where the international delegates voted for Milan to be the host city of the next one. After that, more months of meticulous work started with only one clear purpose: organize the best SWEP that the network has ever seen.
But what is it? The SWEP is the biggest annual regional platform of the Erasmus Student Network after the AGM. Every year, almost 200 delegates coming from all the ESN sections of Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Malta gather for four days to exchange best practices, attend workshops and discuss important themes like international mobility and European citizenships.
SWEP Milano 2017 will take place from 12th October to 15th October. It will start with the opening conference in the Aula Magna of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, one of the most prestigious Italian universities, during the afternoon of the first day. Then, works will continue in the spaces of the Politecnico di Milano, arguably the best Italian university for engineering courses, for the following three days.
The event will have a national and international resonance, thanks to its nature and the presence of delegates and speakers coming from all around Europe. SWEP Milano 2017 is organized with the official patronage of Comune di Milano, Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ Indire, Agenzia Nazionale Giovani and the two universities: Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Politecnico di Milano.
